The Submarine emergency position indicating radio beacon (SEPIRB) is stored onboard submarines. The radio signaling device is used to locate submarines in distress, transmitting a digital message to obtain the position of the SEPIRB to within 100 yards using an onboard GPS receiver. At the time of the emergency, it can be retrieved from storage and launched to ensure protection and identification where needed.
