Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security approves procurement of 37 IBIS sites
Brazil: The Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) has approved the implementation of the ‘Sistema Nacional de Análise Balística’ (SINAB). This is a priority project that will combat gun related crime in Brazil.
This milestone is a major accomplishment at bringing the world together through an international ballistic database. It will be capable of generating investigative leads and correlating crimes across the country using the Ultra Forensic Technology IBIS Technology (Integrated Ballistic Identification System). By the end of 2022, more than R$130 million ($24 million USD) will be invested to deliver to 37 sites.
“The goal is to assist and increase the rate of settlement of crimes committed with firearms,” stated João Ambrosio, general coordinator of research and innovation at SINAB.
The first order of this major contract was awarded on May 7th, 2021 with a total of 6 IBIS sites and a central server site ordered. Further orders to complete the deployment of the 37 sites are expected to be awarded over the upcoming months.
