Ultra Electronics Command & Sonar Systems has been contracted by the UK Ministry of Defence to supply its Sonar 2150 Hull Mount Sonar, featuring active and extended wideband passive performance, for installation to the Royal Navy’s latest Type 26 Frigate.
Ultra is currently contract to supply eight Sonar Type 2150 systems for the UK Royal Navy Type 23 frigates, and this contract provides opportunities to further minimise through-life support and training costs. The novel Digital Array Module architecture comprises transducers with in-dome acquisition, matching and power amplification electronics. This architecture significantly reduces the inboard footprint compared with similar sonars systems. Ultra now establishes itself as the dominant Hull Mounted ASW sonar supplier to the UK Royal Navy, with its sonar systems installed on the Type 45, Type 23 and Type 26 platforms.
